Senate Education Committee Chairman Brian Kelsey made the following statement regarding the announcement by Shelby County Schools (SCS) to return to in-person learning and instruction:

“I am glad that Shelby County schools are now listening to the voices of parents like the ones who testified in favor of my legislation this week,” said Sen. Kelsey who received committee approval on Wednesday for SB 103, which will allow the governor to issue an Executive Order requiring all schools to offer in-person learning and instruction.  “This decision is long overdue because every Tennessee family deserves the choice of in-person learning.  Let’s follow the science, and the science says it’s safe.”

Kelsey said he will continue to pursue passage of SB 103, which is scheduled for debate in the full Senate this coming Thursday.

“We will be watching to ensure that the plan to return to the classroom is implemented.  Our children deserve the best education they can get.”
